Wagons West!

"Wagons West!" is an immersion
program that lasts 3 hours long at
Fort Worth's Log Cabin Village.

The kids got to dress in period costume
if they wanted (and mine did as far as
they were able with hats and JSS's
shoes), learn about life as a pioneer
in the 1800's and perform all sorts
of chores that family's would have
to do to provide for themselves
the necessities.

We had a GRAND TIME learning
and seeing a number of things we'd
learned about through our first
two books in the Little House
series. We had another field
trip two days later to a pioneer
village in Dallas where I was pleased
to see the kids' knowledge retention
as they interacted at that museum.
(It was more hands-on, so they got to
TOUCH most everything, including
a loom from way-back-when, a feat
which surprised one of the museum
guides - a skill they learned on THIS
field trip to Log Cabin Village two
days prior! We even taught HIM
something about the "Pop! Goes
the Weasel" song that Pa would play
to the girls on his fiddle - something
we again learned two days prior on
this fabulous field trip! :)
